I have never driven one. I just like how it looks like some kind of kei car wierdo retro future thing and has a huge square cargo area.
I want to daily a green one and do some sick mods like maybe only wheels and taking care of the plastics like a fanatic.

Are they good to drive or terrible?
I bet that 4 speed auto sucks right?
What is the chassis based on?
How does the AWD do in the snow?

What I remember is that they had lots of room inside for being pretty small cars, and they were cheap. Not a luxury car by any means, but I imagined if I were still in college, I’d look for one.

IIRC, they were based heavily on the Civic, weren’t they? Good for modding and reliability. I’ve never heard anyone say they didn’t like the Element. It’s either love or indifference.

My cousin had on for awhile, they lived in Baja out of it and I always sent him these to torture him..

Eventually they got tired of the crappy awd and bought an Xterra instead.

My dad has 220k plus miles on a 2004 FWD DX auto. It really needs another gear but the rest is good.

My dad had one right up until last week when it was totalled by a tree branch. Pretty versatile and spacious cargo area, he bought it because he wanted something that wasn’t an crossover that could still transport a bike upright.

They drive like a Civic with terrible gas mileage but they are gigantic inside. I want one for my camping/mountain biking car.

I’m trying to convince my sister to buy one for my 16 yr old neice. She only has $6k, wants a CRV with under 150k miles, and in decent shape. Impossible to find, but I’ve found a couple Elements in her budget.

Same platform as the civic & cr-v, but feels more like driving a panel/cargo van. Not fast, AWD system is so-so, but on the upper side of Honda reliability. I don’t remember if you can get AWD with the manual like you can in a Suzuki or Mazda.

Cheap but hard-wearing interior materials, strange ergonomics, definitely not a fancy car and very much shows its age.

If you can, try the SC model, which at least looks better.

Brother-in-law has one of those gold/bronze colored ones - they are pretty cool. We considered buying one but as someone mentioned earlier the ergo is a bit wonky - it’s set up for shorter folks even though it has acres of headroom. I really liked the functional interior. The only issue he’s had is that he gets w/s dings/cracks super frequently.

Funny. I have an Xterra and have a deep want for an Element.
